Es el resultado de la producci\u00f3n de una corriente el\u00e9ctrica generada por el contacto de dos piezas formadas por materiales diferentes que son expuestas a la radiaci\u00f3n electromagn\u00e9tica que proviene de los rayos solares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-como-conseguimos-que-se-produzca-el-efecto-fotovoltaico\"><strong>\u00bfC\u00f3mo conseguimos que se produzca el efecto fotovoltaico?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Las c\u00e9lulas solares se fabrican con materiales semiconductores como el silicio que se comportan de diferente manera cuando son expuestos a la electricidad. Por eso, mediante la exposici\u00f3n solar, son capaces de transformar la radiaci\u00f3n electromagn\u00e9tica del sol en electricidad en forma de corriente continua.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The radiation absorbed by each cell causes electrons to jump from one layer to another and electrical energy is generated. The sun's rays are made up of particles called photons, which are what alter the material and start the photovoltaic effect. The energy produced by the photons is intended to free the electron from the atom, as once it is free it can move through the material and be used as electrical energy. In this process, materials such as silicon acquire conductivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u00bfC\u00f3mo se consigue una corriente el\u00e9ctrica?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Cuando el electr\u00f3n se libera del \u00e1tomo y empieza a desplazarse a trav\u00e9s del material que, como ya hemos mencionado, ahora es conductor, se queda un hueco en el \u00e1tomo que espera ser ocupado. Es ah\u00ed cuando se producen las cargas el\u00e9ctricas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Esta corriente de cargas puede salir del material y realizar un trabajo \u00fatil, pero para conseguir esto necesitamos que el campo el\u00e9ctrico tenga una polaridad constante. De lo contrario, la corriente se interrumpir\u00e1 y no se podr\u00e1 extraer de manera constante y regular. Cuando el campo el\u00e9ctrico tiene una polaridad constante act\u00faa como una bomba que impulsa a los electrones en el sentido contrario al de los huecos que aparecen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>La importancia de los fotones<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Photons of ultraviolet radiation, i.e. those of shorter wavelengths, are more energetic than those corresponding to infrared radiation, which corresponds to a longer wavelength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El silicio, como el resto de materiales semiconductores, tiene una energ\u00eda m\u00ednima que permite liberar los electrones de sus \u00e1tomos. Esta energ\u00eda corresponde a los fotones de una banda de frecuencias que va desde los rayos ultravioleta hasta los colores visibles por el ojo humano con la excepci\u00f3n del rojo, que tiene una energ\u00eda asociada menor de 1,2 electronvoltios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u00bfTodas las part\u00edculas de luz se transforman en electricidad?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>No. Se absorbe gran parte de la radiaci\u00f3n que reciben las c\u00e9lulas fotovoltaicas, aunque mediante transmisi\u00f3n se producen p\u00e9rdidas en la energ\u00eda que llega hasta las placas solares al cambiar de material. En este cambio de medio, algunos fotones pierden demasiada energ\u00eda y no mantienen suficiente como para desplazar un electr\u00f3n. Las p\u00e9rdidas asociadas a la no absorci\u00f3n dependen de las propiedades del material y por tanto no se pueden evitar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, hay un cierto n\u00famero de fotones que, aunque atraviesan la l\u00e1mina del material semiconductor, no se topan con ning\u00fan electr\u00f3n y son, por lo tanto, reflejados. A esto se le denomina p\u00e9rdida por reflexi\u00f3n.
